I keep a list of beautiful words. It’s not their meanings I find beautiful, but their sounds. Considering the meanings of a couple of these words, you’ll find this is true. 🙂
vile
slink
squeal
assail
wisp
mist
darting
scurry
scamper
dusk
dim
morrow
swivel
billow
sapphire
spasm
squash
ethereal
exquisite
My favourite of all of these has to be ‘slink’.

Slime and slimy are also gorgeous. They make me think of worms. (I used to love rolling aforesaid creatures through my fingers when I found them in the garden.)

Oh my wow that’s gross. Rolling worms through your fingers? Yuck. Slime and slimy are nice words though – although not because they make me think of worms…

A good list, Benita. I would choose sapphire from your words above. The word reminds me of saffron, which is a word I quite like, too. It’s a word that I also associate with the word ‘steel’… from the classic British TV series “Sapphire and Steel”. Still is another word I quite like… multiple uses and quite ‘flexible’.
I’m surprised you didn’t have ‘precious’ on your list. Of course, any writer that describes something as ‘precious’ can destroy a scene entirely as the reader immediately pictures Gollum fawning over his ring… sort of like a ‘story-bomb’ moment 😉

Auto-correct is plaguing me today… last sentence in the first paragraph should read as ‘Steel’ and most certainly not ‘Still’.

I don’t believe I’ve ever used ‘precious’ in a scene! The subconscious implications are probably too strong…
I’ve never heard of “Sapphire and Steel”, but it’s a fantastic title. I should look it up. Steel is indeed a good word. I do like the S sound. It has a way of softening hard words.

I love this list. You have two words I love also. Ethereal and Wisp. Ethereal because it sounds beautiful and fragile and magical and a street near me is named Ethereal -Love it! Wisp because it is fun to say, but also is a word that reminds me of something magical, beautiful- hard to catch, but love to follow and see where the light takes you! Fun read, thanks Benita! ……….I also love what others mentioned such as Song and Screech….great words. I am not sure about SPASM-I must say. lol it just brings me PAIN to say the least!!!!

I think wisp, like ethereal, also sounds fragile. They’re both lovely words. Yah, I’m not entirely sure about spasm, but if it’s not beautiful, it is at least amusing to say. 🙂

Song is a good one, and silver. I can hear a stream tinkling when I say the word silver.
